O&M Plumbing is known for our gas line installation and repairs because we offer quality and durable service at an affordable price.  Gas lines are a vital part of your home; powering your stoves, fireplace, water heater, and other appliances in and around the house that keep your home warm, dry, and comfortable.  Calling the right professional can mean the difference between a reliable and efficient system for years or repeated calls to address additional issues and repairs down the road.

The most common place for a gas line leak is where pipes join together at the fittings such as:

Old shut off valves, Tees, Unions, Flex Lines, Regulators, or Risers. These connections must be tight enough or the thread sealant becomes dry; when that happens, leaks occur.  Corrosion of black iron piping that is not properly protected from the elements may also leak.

Here are some signs to look out for that may indicate a leak in your home:

  • A sulfur type smell will be your first sign; think rotten eggs.  If that smell is near a gas appliance or gas pipes, you may have a gas leak.  Is the smell constant?

  • Where are you smelling the sulfur-like smell?  If the leak is outside and underground, it might kill the grass over time.

  • Always be aware of where you have gas in your home and if something smells off, contact O&M right away.

  • Another common place for gas leaks comes after a new roof is installed.  Corrugated stainless steel lines can easily be punctured by roofing nails when the line has been installed too close to the roof.  This leak might become evident immediately, but other times it can take months for the leak to appear.  If your roof has been replaced, it might be worth a visit from an O&M Plumber to check the gas lines as well as making sure that the water heater is properly vented to protect your family against carbon monoxide poisoning.

O&M Plumbing offers professional gas line repair and installation in Austin and surrounding cities. When an O&M Plumber arrives, they will ask who, what, when, and where questions to determine as much as possible in regards to the leak.  They are hoping to minimize the time needed to locate the gas leak.  The gas will need to be shut off until the repairs have been completed. Your family's safety is our priority!  Once the leak is located, O&M Plumbing will provide you an estimate for the repair and an approximate time frame for repairs and inspection to be completed.

Gas Safety Tips:

  3. Never smoke or have an open flame in the area of a gas smell.

  4. Never attempt to repair a gas leak on your own.

  5. Know where your gas shut off valves are and how to operate them in case of an emergency.
